About Koenraad Ecker

Koenraad Ecker (°1986) is a composer and performer of electro-acoustic music & creator of multidisciplinary performances. His output ranges from studio albums to multidisciplinary performances, audiovisual installations, music for contemporary dance & theater and soundtrack work. He has received commissions from renowned institutions such as ZKM, Göteborgs Opera, Bozar Electronic Arts Festival, Zero Visibility,... and has presented his work in venues ranging from freezing squats to plush opera houses in Europe, the Americas and Asia. In 2017, one of his spatial audio compositions was nominated for the „Prix Ars Electronica“. His sound design work has been used in major film projects such as Black Mirror (2016) and Annihilation (2018). His sound-work revolves around the tactility of sound, spatial audio and its scenographic possibilities , electro-acoustic hybrids, a non-traditional use of foley techniques, alternative tuning systems, the narrative techniques of editing and the paradoxical qualities of silence. The dominant themes in his works are : the relationship between the body & sound, transformation, the uncanny, the politics of community, empathy & alienation in a performance space and exploring the porousness of the boundaries between the inside/mental and outside/physical worlds through sound.

Residency at ZKM for 4DSound

I just came back from an intense, month-long residency at ZKM, Karlsruhe, where I was invited to be part of the artists- in-residence program alongside Cristian Vogel, Alyssa Moxley, MESH and a host of Raster Noton artists to make a composition specifically for the incredible 4D sound system. Additionally, there were presentations of landmark works by Edgar Varèse and Iannis Xenakis. More info can be found hereScreen Shot 2016-03-17 at 18.43.22.png.
